What Makes a Good Sudoku Book
A good puzzle book has clean grids that are easy to read. It has one puzzle per page with room for pencil marks. It comes with a complete answer key. The puzzles should be sorted by difficulty and tested for a single valid solution. Too many cheap books fail on one or more of these basics.
Look for the Right Difficulty
Beginners should start with a book labeled easy. These puzzles have 36 to 45 givens and can be solved with basic scanning. If you already solve newspaper puzzles, jump to medium or hard. Experts want books with 17 to 21 givens per puzzle. Do not buy a book that mixes difficulties randomly.
Print Quality Matters
Thin paper bleeds through. Tiny grids cause eye strain. Books printed on thicker stock with 8.5 x 11 inch pages are much better to work with. The grid lines should be dark enough to see but not so thick that they crowd the numbers. Large-print editions are worth considering for anyone over 50.
